Description

I began my working career as a buyer for the old Rover car company near Birmingham, after 13 years of sitting behind a desk I took an opportunity not to be missed – I left Rover & embarked on an Arts Foundation year at Worcester College of Art & Design. I then had a choice of either continuing my art studies or, to set up my own art studio which I had always dreamed of doing. I decided on the latter and from that moment I have never looked back.

My art studio is a 300 year old barn sat on the edge of an ancient hay meadow with distant views toward the Abberley Hills. It’s the perfect place for sitting and painting or sculpting – inspirational, picturesque and quiet. I have been working in the barn for the past 18 years. My day normally begins with walking my dog, and then I get into my studio around 10.30 am.

I work in pastel pencil and in oils. The pencils are Swan Stabillo Carb Othello which can be sharpened to a fine point ideal for achieving fine detail. The oils I use are Michael Harding and Winsor and Newton. I also work in clay and produce cold cast bronze resin animal sculptures. When I start a commissioned portrait I will take hair samples if possible as this helps as a colour reference as I work. When I have gathered together all the necessary information, photographs etc. then the painting can begin! I have sculptures on display in Kings Gallery in Worcester and The Old Chapel Gallery in Pembridge. Examples of my paintings and sculptures are also on display in my studio.
